Winter is not slow at a barn. The water freezes, the blankets multiply and the daylight disappears. But the lesson book usually is slower, and that makes it the best time of year to fix the office.
The eight items
- Review board and lesson rates. Feed, hay, bedding and insurance went up. Decide on any change now and give boarders 30 days of written notice.
- Renew boarding and lease agreements. Make sure every horse on the property has a current, signed agreement on file.
- Refresh waivers. Collect current signed waivers for every rider and boarder, and move them somewhere digital and searchable.
- Audit health records. Coggins dates, vaccines and farrier schedules for every horse, in one place, with the next due date visible.
- Check your insurance. Confirm care, custody and control coverage and liability limits, and ask instructors and trainers for current certificates.
- Open spring and summer registration. Camps and spring lesson packages fill faster when families can sign up in January instead of April.
- Clean up your client list. One list, current phone and email, and a note on what each family rides. It powers every reminder and announcement next year.
- Plan your content. Twelve weeks of simple posts, photographed on good-light days and scheduled in advance, keeps you visible all spring.
Spring rewards the barns that did their paperwork in January.
One afternoon at a time
None of these take long on their own. Pick one item each week through February and you will walk into spring ahead of it. Or hand us the list. This is exactly the kind of work our admin plans are built to carry.
